Review: First Life at the Natural History Museum

28. July 2015

First Life at the Natural History Museum

“Please, please keep your hands on your lap,” our guide begs us. “You may want to reach out and touch some of the animals, but they’re not there and you can’t, I promise you. And we’d hate for you to inappropriately touch your neighbour.” This isn’t how most museum exhibits begin, but at the Natural History Museum’s first ever virtual reality installation “First Life”, it is important to brief viewers on what will be a completely new experience for most of them.

For this film (if that’s even the right word), the Natural History Museum has worked with a virtual reality specialist to create a 15 minute immersive experience based on the earliest forms of life.

Plague, Fire & Revolution arrives at Centre Screen

Plague Fire Revolution Arrives at Centre Screen

We’ve been filming in Elstree for an upcoming Samuel Pepys exhibit, combining 17th century Restoration Theatre with 21st century green screen. Working with our client the National Maritime Museum, we filmed scenes from two plays, Shakespeare’s tragedy Macbeth and John Dryden’s farcical comedy Sir Martin Mar-all. Our five actors relished the opportunity to ‘go up to 11’ with their performances, true to the Restoration style of the 17th century.

Museum of the Year goes to Whitworth Art Gallery

2. July 2015

Whitworth Art Gallery

Congratulations to Whitworth Gallery for winning Museum of the Year 2015.  It is great to see a local Manchester museum take home the accolade.

Whitworth director Maria Balshaw accepted the award, which included £100,000, from the Art Fund at the Tate Modern last night. An extra 30,000 people have visited the museum since its £15m investment; the largest physical transformation it had seen in it’s 125-year history.

Here’s a series of photos from our latest shoot: 2 days of filming on the beaches of Portsmouth to a studio in Manchester, we recreated the beach landings of Gallipoli during WWI for an immersive AV experience at The National Royal Navy Museum. You can read more about this project on our ‘In Production’ page.

Our talented graphic design team have even created this mini teaser to give a peak at what’s to come…
