In this award-winning museum, Centre Screen – in collaboration with exhibition designers Redman Design – have created a range of AV and interactive installations telling the story of historic Dunfermline at work and play for over a thousand years.
From encounters with Kings and Queens of Scotland in Royal Dunfermline to an interactive shopping trip along the high street and large-scale projections of the histories of the Forth crossing and local textile industry, we’ve painted Dunfermline from every angle. We’ve even taken visitors back through nine decades to visit the changing lives of ordinary families in the heart of their home: the kitchen.
And we’ve worked closely with the Museum’s curatorial team to present a vast range of oral histories, bringing to life local people’s memories of Dunfermline’s mining, weaving, transport and leisure heritage, as well as its role in both World Wars.
Linked to Dunfermline’s original Carnegie Library, the new, £12.4m building – the 2017 Edinburgh Architects’ Association New Building of the Year – also houses a local history Reading Room, children’s library and café, and is open now.
